An update on sustainability

At The Campamento, we deeply understand the environmental impact of producing children’s clothing. That’s why we work to adopt practices that reduce our ecological footprint and promote a better future for the children and the planet. Here’s how we are making a difference:

Proximity manufacturers

98% of our production is carried out in Portugal, a short distance from our headquarters in A Coruña. This proximity helps us maintain close control over quality while significantly reducing emissions associated with long-distance transportation. Supporting local production is one of our ways to foster a more sustainable economy.

We have always produced, and will continue to produce, a significant percentage of our collections with nearby manufacturers, even though the margins and final prices may not be the most advantageous for us in the market. For us, this is both an important and bold commitment, but it remains a non-negotiable part of how we operate at The Campamento.

Responsible materials and organic standards

We prioritize materials sourced and manufactured with limited use of resources, chemicals or water, lowering our environmental impact. A significant portion of our collections, between 20% and 30% of our cotton, is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), ensuring compliance with organic agricultural practices and guaranteeing responsible production processes.

Timeless and durable design

Our designs are not only timeless and durable but also created with responsibly sourced, high-quality materials. Each piece is crafted with exceptional attention to detail, aiming to reduce waste while respecting the artisans who bring these garments to life. We ensure fair treatment and quality working conditions for those who produce our products.

Carbon-neutral shipping

We offset the carbon footprint of our shipments through carbon-neutral options provided by our logistics partner. This initiative supports projects like reforestation, methane capture, and wastewater treatment, which help to counterbalance emissions generated during transportation.

Reuse and circular economy

We’re compromised to extending the life cycle of our garments by exploring ways to transform damaged materials into new pieces. This aligns with our vision of transforming a linear consumption model into a more circular approach.

To achieve this goal, we partner with factories that actively explore innovative methods to recycle garments and give new life to the fabrics.

In line with our commitment, we are planning to create a comprehensive guide on how to care for your clothes. We believe that proper care is essential to extending the lifespan of your garments, promoting sustainability in the process.

We recently standardized all the stationery to avoid unnecessary waste between different campaigns.

Eco-friendly packaging

100% of our envelopes for ecommerce are made with FSC certificate paper. It means that our paper comes from a forest evaluated and certified as being managed according to the correct social, economic and environmental standards. Also, these envelopes were created for being reused.

Both in all the work we do and in the office, we have eliminated unnecessary plastics and prioritized materials that can have a second life, further reducing our environmental impact.

This also has a positive impact on the daily lives of those of us at The Campamento, integrating these practices not only into our work environment but also making them part of our lifestyle.

Cruelty-free

All our products are cruelty-free and made without animal materials.

Sales

We are aware that working on a seasonal basis is not the most sustainable model. Similarly, we are not proud of discounting garments that are still new, made with high-quality materials, and crafted by skilled workers. However, leaving unsold stock unused is not a positive alternative either.

Currently, we hold archive sales once per season for a very short period, allowing us to sell stock no longer available on the website. Even so, we know this is not enough and we are actively exploring alternatives, such as developing continuous collections.

We are also studying ways to repurpose items from sample collections or size sets to ensure nothing goes to waste.

We choose not to participate in Black Friday or similar discount periods. While we do offer seasonal sales, we avoid engaging in aggressive discounting that promotes an unsustainable consumption model. Our goal is to encourage mindful purchasing and discourage harmful, excessive consumer behavior.

Collaborations for a better future

We actively participate in initiatives and collaborations with non-profit organizations, and like-minded brands that support environmental and social projects, ensuring a meaningful and positive impact beyond our own operations.

In the past, we collaborated with Sea Shepherd to protect oceans and marine life through direct action. More recently, we visited Notpla, a company offering innovative solutions and sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic packaging, to understand their approach and explore options to integrate into our business model.

Reflecting on this update, we have realized that more direct actions are necessary and we are committed to exploring new initiatives in this regard.

Education and transparency

We believe in sharing both our actions and challenges. By being transparent about our processes, we aim to inspire others while continuing to learn and grow on our sustainability journey.

You can find detailed information about the factories we collaborate with in the Sustainability section of our website, along with more insights into our operations.

We also want to open a new communication channel. Through impact@thecampamento.com, we invite you to share your proposals or suggestions. We believe it’s important to exchange experiences and that fresh perspectives from outside our daily operations can help us improve.

Our goal is simple yet ambitious: to create clothing that not only cares for children but also for the world they will inherit. Though we know there’s always more to do, we remain committed to taking meaningful steps towards a brighter, more responsible future. Thank you for supporting us on this journey ❤️
