Recently, we had the opportunity to spend a few days in the heart of London and couldn’t miss the chance to share with you some recommendations based on our experience in the English capital.
In this small guide, you’ll discover a range of alternative activities, from exploring green spaces in the city center to visiting museums and enjoying culinary delights. We hope you find it helpful in case you spend some time in London!
Clissold Park
We start in the north of Hackney, where Clissold Park is located. This historic park is perfect for unwinding, whether it’s for a picnic, some sports, or just a leisurely stroll. From anywhere in the park, you can see the tower of St Mary’s Church rising through the trees.
We highly recommend stopping by Fink’s Pump House, a coffee stand located within the park, to recharge your batteries.
Rochelle Canteen
16 Playground Gardens
If you’re looking for a place to eat, Rochelle Canteen won’t disappoint you. Set in a converted Victorian school in Shoreditch, it has a seasonal menu that changes daily. The Canteen, located in the former bike shed of Rochelle School, provides views of the trees at Arnold Circus and offers outdoor seating for sunny days.
Design Museum
224-238 Kensington High Street
The Design Museum is currently hosting an exhibition celebrating the life and work of one of the greatest Italian designers of the 20th century: Enzo Mari. Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Francesca Giacomelli, this exhibition is a must-visit if you’re in London before September 8th.
Notting Hill
If you’ve visited the Design Museum early in the morning, consider heading to Notting Hill around noon. Whether you’ve been before or prefer avoiding touristy spots, we suggest taking a leisurely walk to admire the area’s architecture, houses, and cars. It’s truly worth it!
Also, if you’re looking for something quick and delicious, Ottolenghi at 63 Ledbury Rd offers great takeaway options.
Hyde Park
To round off your late afternoon, consider heading from Notting Hill to Soho via Hyde Park. While the journey may be lengthy, it’s rewarding to explore the expansive gardens, whether by bike or on foot. Take a break from the city noise and enjoy this expansive green space, cherished as a recreational haven by locals and tourists alike.
Barbican Centre
Located in the heart of London, the Barbican Centre stands as one of the city’s premier arts and cultural hubs. Designed in the Brutalist architectural style, it hosts a diverse array of performances, exhibitions and events.
Hackney City Farm
Nestled in the vibrant borough of Hackney in East London, this farm offers a unique urban farming experience. Visitors can encounter a variety of farm animals such as goats, pigs, and chickens while exploring sustainable agricultural practices. The farm also hosts educational programs and workshops, making it a valuable community resource promoting environmental awareness and animal welfare in the heart of the city.
Whether you’re planning a trip to London or already there, we hope our recommendations prove helpful! London offers a wealth of diverse attractions waiting to be explored, so make the most of your time and enjoy everything the city has to offer!
